Lawyers Telling the Truth About Kugel Mesh
The recalled Kugel Mesh patches were manufactured by Bard from 2001 through March, 2006 and include only the large and extra large patches. These patches use a memory recoil ring that allows the patch to be folded for insertion in a laparoscopic procedure. There is a substantial risk of breakage during or after the procedure which can lead to serious, life-threatening or even fatal injuries, including:
- Bowel paralysis
- Abdominal abscess
- Pelvic inflammatory disease
Perhaps the most dangerous potential complication caused by defective Kugel Mesh design and manufacture is abdominal or bowel perforation. Unless treated aggressively and in a timely fashion, this can lead to infection (peritonitis, sepsis, septicemia) or death in a matter of hours or days following surgery.
