Surgical Mesh Complications

Have You Suffered Complications From Surgical Mesh?

Surgical mesh is often used to treat issues such as hernias, pelvic organ prolapse (POP), stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and other conditions. It can also be used to patch internal injuries or following a birth delivery by cesarean section (C-section). For many, the use of surgical mesh is an effective way to take care of these conditions. Others, unfortunately, have suffered serious complications.

Surgical mesh complications can cause serious issues and may require additional surgeries to correct. In some cases, complications may not be reversible, leaving patients to deal with ongoing and often painful medical issues.

Because of some of these increasingly known complications, many patients have filed lawsuits against surgical and vaginal mesh manufacturers such as Johnson & Johnson, American Medical Systems, Inc. (AMS), Boston Scientific, Bard and others nationwide. If you or a loved one has suffered serious complications from surgical mesh use, you could be entitled to seek action against negligent companies for your injuries.

Did you or a loved one suffer complications from surgical mesh erosion or other problems following a seemingly routine surgery? The Dallas law firm of Miller Weisbrod, LLP, can help you submit a claim for compensation for your injuries. Contact us for a free, confidential case evaluation today.

Serious Risks of Transvaginal Mesh

In July 2011, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an updated health advisory regarding the use of transvaginal mesh, which is often used to treat POP and SUI in women. According to the FDA, an increasing number of patients have experienced serious complications after receiving vaginal mesh treatment, including:

  • Mesh erosion into surrounding tissues
  • Infection
  • Organ perforation
  • Chronic pain
  • Adverse reactions to the mesh

The likelihood of experiencing vaginal mesh complications are much greater than previously thought. Furthermore, the benefits of transvaginal mesh repair over non-mesh treatments have been shown to be not as effective, and in fact could expose a patient to greater risk.
